The company’s purpose is to relieve poverty, distress, disadvantage and homelessness among people in Australia who are experiencing, or are at risk of, homelessness or housing insecurity and who are unable from their own resources to obtain or keep safe, secure and appropriate housing.

Priority is given to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; people affected by domestic, family or sexual violence; young people, including young people leaving out-of-home care; and people experiencing mental ill-health.

Assistance is given only on assessed need, never on occupation or employment status. Open House does not operate home ownership, shared equity or rent-to-buy programs.
